The Flame Scallop (Lima scabra) has a white shell with a red mantel that carries red and or white tentacles. This animal is a filter feeder that requires a well established reef aquarium with feedings of phytoplankton and or zooplankton 3-4 times a week. It should not be placed with aggressive fish that may try to eat it, if this scallop is picked on it may propel away quickly though the water in search of a place to hide. Like all invertebrates it is sensitive to heavy medals like copper. It is important to provide good calcium levels for proper shell growth.--- Size: 1-3in.--- Temper: peaceful--- Care level: difficult--- Supplements: trace elements, calcium--- Diet: phytoplankton and zooplankton or other filter feeding foods--- Lighting: low--- Water flow: moderate.

The Hawaiian Feather Duster (Sabellastarte sp.) is relatively easy to maintain in the home reef aquarium. This animal is really a worm that extracts a soft outer coating to protect its body. The worm uses its featherlike crown to catch free floating plankton, therefore it needs good water movement and feedings of phytoplankton and zooplankton a few times per week. It prefers a course gravel/sand bottom because it incorporates it into the outer coating of its protective tube. Like all invertebrates it is very sensitive to heavy medals like copper. Eventually the worm will shed its crown off but then it will grow a new one.--- Size: 4-5.5in.--- Temper: peaceful--- Care Level: easy--- Supplements: trace elements--- Water flow: moderate--- Diet: phytoplankton, zooplankton or other filter feeding foods.

The pincushion urchin is a good addition to a stabilized reef aquarium. This type of urchin eats algae and or seaweed. Care should be taken in transporting this urchin, this type is not particularly venomous to humans, but its spines can be painful if you are poked. This animal may try to eat small defenseless invertebrates, but it is usually peaceful. If the waters quality is less than acceptable than it may shed its spines. The best environment for this animal is an aquarium of at least 10 gallons with lots of live rock with acceptable amounts of algae of which it can feed, you can also feed it dry seaweed.--- Size: 2-3in.--- Temper: mainly peaceful--- Tank size: 10 gallons--- Care level: Easy--- Diet: algae or seaweed--- Supplements: calcium and trace elements.
